Five Steps to a Successful Social Media Campaign

There are so many people who have made numerous attempts at using social media on their own to promote their businesses. However, many have had little success with it. From what I have seen is that they may send one Facebook message or one Tweet in a week about their business. In addition to that, their following and fan list is either inactive or very small. That is not going to help them create a successful social media campaign, let alone being enough to create interest for them. Not to mention, it takes time and a lot of effort to create a strong social media campaign. Nevertheless, everyone has to start somewhere and here are some tips to start it right-

Talk to your Followers/Fans Often and Ask them Questions – Asking your friends and followers questions will make a world of a difference! Do not go on and on about your business, especially at first. Talk to your followers. Ask them how their week is going. Ask them what their favorite ice cream flavor is (and tell them yours just to start getting some good conversation going). Once you get to know your followers and they see you are taking an interest in them, then you can start telling them bits and pieces about what you offer. That is how relationships are established.

Plain and Simple, Just Be Active – One tweet or comment made on Google+ is not going to make you noticeable. If you are serious about getting yourself noticed out there and want true interest for everything you offer, you need to send at least 4 tweets/ Google + shares a day, and 3 Facebook comments a day. That is the minimum. However, you certainly don’t want to over-do it either. One of those shares can promote your business, but the rest of what you share should show interest in your followers/fans, and even share something funny or interesting to gain interest and even more followers.

Add your Social Media Badges to your Website – If you happen to not have a Facebook, Twitter or Google+ badge on your website, people will have a difficult time finding a way to follow you. Be sure to add them.

Keep Commenting– If you truly want to be noticed, be sure to comment on as many blogs as you can that is relevant to your niches. Comment on other Facebook like pages as well, and make your comments relevant. Go on twitter, search for tweets that are also relevant to your niches. Reply to those tweets. If you are consistent, you will get many followers, likes and fans.

Syndicate your Blog to Social Media Sites– You will definitely want to syndicate your blog to social media sites like YouTube, Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and more. These sites are filled with traffic and you will easily get more followers and even clients down the road! You are missing out big time if you don’t!

This will get you to a good start.

Great advice. It is amazing. Online Social Media is really a lot like offline networking….if you go to an event and don’t talk to anyone then not much happens.

    Great simple tips.

Great information Miriam! I know I need to work on a lot of these things before I start a business blog! For now I am blogging on more of a personal not, but I certainly see how consistency could make a huge difference in business blogs! Some day I will figure out other media’s……..I don’t know anything about twitter and tried to set up a GOOGLE+ thing but just got confused! You certainly seem like you are top notch with this stuff! Thanks for sharing!

I think that social media can be very overwhelming and time consuming. Despite asking questions, and sometimes getting “likes” on my FB page, it just doesn’t seem to grow! And I’m posting frequently!
    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Hi Miriam,

I definitely could not add a new post from my iPhone. I’m not sure why. I am grateful for your content and like your writing style.

Thank you for all the helpful hints.

Interesting one. Although Social media is a great tool, you really need to harness it well to understand its real power.

The most effective tools I have found are the auto-syndication tools. (Please note I come from the working writer camp where the most effective thing you can do is actually write something new–oh, I feel a blog post coming on.) The auto-syndication tools allow me to write a post, and not have to worry about the first round of advertising for them. After the first round, I do have to go manually do stuff, but at least the initial push is partially covered already.
