An Overview of Tribe Building with Sean M. Madden

On the latest episode of Getting Social with Miriam, the focus was on tribe building and social media. My guest on the last show, Sean M. Madden had something very exciting to share. Sean is an American writer-educator, photographer and slow-traveling digital nomad who has lived in the South East of England since 2005. However, in May 2012, he and his partner embarked upon a slow traveling tour of Europe which continues with no end in sight. In addition to their other creative endeavors, Sean and his partner founded in July 2013 while in Scotland, which is about working with creative businesses and individuals, worldwide, to build tribes of loyal customers via strategic websites, visual storytelling, and social media. Sean has a new creation, the #CreativeTribes community on Slack, and that is what we spoke about. Sean and I discussed the importance of tribe building and why it is extremely important to create a loyal following.     I enjoyed the clear visuals of the CreativeThunder website – and I liked even more that the site was set up to be easy to read. As a near-senior citizen, I appreciate the thought that went into this. (And a cat pictures at the beginning of your post? Bet that was intentional, too.)

The cat in the photo with me is a dear ol’ friend we met while camping just outside of Vichy, France throughout the Summer of 2012. We have friends who return to that campsite, again and again, who always report back that our cat friend there is alive and well! πŸ™‚

    I too visited the site. I agree that stories trump data every time. Stories humanize our business. Today people want to know who they are dealing with when they come to your site. I can’t believe that I still go to sites and they just offer products and services and don’t say a word about who is behind the business. Or, sometimes they have a brief sentence or two. So what? It could be a lie. It could just be a cold corporate site with no customer service. I mean I have thousands if not millions of choices online, why should I buy from you??? I don’t know who you are or if I like you.

    Anyway, you can tell this is a pet peeve of mine. πŸ˜‰

    From what I saw, it looks good and I particularly like the “Our Values” section. Very nice touch to keep me on the site, building trust.

      Thank you for leaving your above comment. Yes, my partner Mufidah and I have been working throughout our travels since leaving our home in the South East of England in May 2012. We each have a daughter, from previous relationships, in their twenties who are both living independently in the U.S.

      If you’d like to simultaneously travel and work, there are a fast-growing number of us doing it, and lots of resources you’ll find online aimed at digital nomads, remote workers, online businesses, etc. Thus far, we’ve been traveling by car around Europe, though we’re thinking of heading to SE Asia as our next stop, or soonish anyway.

      And, of course, let me know if I can help you in any way, should you decide to go the nomadic route. Or if I can be of help in any other way.
